TOOLS OF THE TRADE...
I am a firm believer in quality fine art but
without the tools necessary to undertake any project it wouldn't be
fair to forget the tools. I have always placed a lot of value in
brushes, canvas, paints, and mediums. If you are going to paint then by
all means spend the money and get the best tools on the market. I
myself only use Windsor and Newton products. From brushes to paints and
mediums I buy only the best I can afford.
There have been times when I have tried Grumbacher paints and mediums
which are equally as good a product, but I have always felt more
comfortable with my W&N products.
I know exactly how one paint will perform (given wheather conditions)
in almost any environment.
I use flat and round brushes in painting and at times have used a
makeup
brush from my own collection for a soft almost featherlike stroke in
portraiture.
My pallette is very simple. I only use primary colors and mix
when need to, although, I have used a variety of premixed colors such
as Purple or Vermillion. Indian yellow and Paynes Gray are two of
my favorite colors and don't go anywhere without them. I mix my
own medium by combining Linseed Oil and Mineral spirits and when in a
crunch I will use premixed formulas by W&N. You will
find Canvas in many textures and sizes but unless I am working on a
specific size like a 60" X 80" box canvas for instance (which I
absolutely love), I
use 16 X20 wrap around primed canvas.
More recently I have been using a Wacom Graphire tablet and sylus.
It gives me the freedom to express myself and create computer generated
images ( CGI) with endless possibilities and diversity. I am able to
use a photograph to
rework into a new image, enhance the photo, or completely create
something new from the pose or gesture. I am able to sketch,
paint, and generate images I would ordinarily not have been able to do
in a very short amount of time. Corel
Painter IX.5 is the ultimate in painting programs. There are so
many variances and brush tools you are free to express yourself in many
many ways.
By clicking on any of the images on this page you will find links to so
many tools of the trade I currently use. I have been know to have 2
sometimes 3 projects at one time whether it is an oil painting or a
digital painting. In this format, I am able to stay busy and free from
the limitations of just one medium.
